Join our City Ministry (NLKids, Youth, Grad Students, Working Professionals, Families, and Retirees) for our City Summer Break Trip, taking place June 12th-15th! This trip is a great opportunity to get away and pursue a lifestyle of worship and community for a long weekend. There will be morning devotionals, personal time with God, musical worship, small groups, time for fellowship, fun, and experiencing God in creation.

Hocking Hills

For this year’s City Summer Break Trip, we will be going to Hocking Hills, OH, and renting a few large houses to stay in together. These homes will accommodate about 16-20 people and be your home base for the weekend. You’ll start out the day by doing a morning devotion together with your house after breakfast, and then have extended time for personal time with God (some optional direction will be provided).

After lunch, afternoons will be free to explore Hocking Hills State Park, or to hang out at the house to play games or talk, or whatever else you’d like. In the evenings, we’ll have some time for small groups and musical worship, as well as free time to continue enjoying fellowship together.

How Much Is It?

The cost for the City Summer Break Trip is $200 per person. You’ll be responsible for your travel costs, but everything else is covered for the long weekend (lodging, food, etc).

We don’t want cost to be a barrier to anyone, so you can also request a scholarship below. If you’d like to contribute to scholarships, you can do so on the giving page of our website by selecting "Retreat Scholarships" in the dropdown menu.

Where will we be staying, and how will I get there?

All the houses are near Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio. This will be about a 4-hour drive from Ann Arbor. In your registration, please indicate if you need a ride or can provide a ride, and we will organize carpooling as needed.

What will the housing look like?

There will be a place on your registration form to indicate who you would like to stay with (family, friends, home group members, etc.) and we will do our best to accommodate all those requests. It will be a little bit of a puzzle to figure out (with prayer and God’s help), and a lot will depend on who and how many people sign up. If we are unable to accommodate all your requests we will reach out to you to talk through options. Our hope is that everyone will have an amazing time together and experience the love of God and Christian community deeply.

We will also have a few people who are helping to lead things in each house; we will share the responsibilities of making and cleaning up all the meals; and if we’re able to find a space large enough, we will try to do a combined worship night one of the evenings with all the houses together.

Questions & Answers

Here are some answers to common questions.

We don’t want finances to be a barrier for anyone who wants to come on the trip. If the cost feels like a barrier to you and/or your family attending, we’d love for you to apply for a scholarship by emailing Joel VanderSchel (joel.vanderschel@newlifea2.org).

Each house will have similar but slightly different schedules, likely beginning with breakfast around 8-9am, followed by a morning devotional and personal time with the Lord. After lunch, there will be a lot of free time in the afternoons to explore the beauty of Hocking Hills State Park. After dinner, the evenings will potentially have some combination of small groups, musical worship, Scripture teaching, prayer, and free time.

There will not be childcare provided for this trip. Our hope is, with the smaller and intimate nature of doing these trips by house, children can participate in most of the schedule and experience the love of God alongside their parents and spiritual family. Also, there is not a different rate for children since the bulk of the cost is the housing and each house has a guest capacity limit that doesn’t change for adults or children.

If you have additional questions about the trip, feel free to connect with our City Director, Nik Spasovski (nik@newlifea2.org).
