At New Life, we dream of equipping for life. The next generation is our future, and we are committed to training up workers who will labor in the harvest fields for the sake of the gospel (Luke 10:2). Internships and one-year residencies are opportunities to seek the kingdom of God throughout the Michigan campus and the city of Ann Arbor, to join more extensively in God’s work at New Life.

Internships

Internships at New Life are part-time, 20-hour-per-week positions most often filled by current undergraduate students (who are still in undergrad during the internship). They are a great opportunity for those who:

  • Want to be part of advancing the Kingdom of God at U of M while continuing their studies.
  • Have a deep commitment to growing personally, professionally, and spiritually.
  • May have a desire to pursue vocational ministry in the future and want a chance to learn more what it’s like.
  • Have available time to continue their academic pursuits faithfully throughout their NLC internship.

Both interns and residents will work together with New Life staff to develop a job description that balances emphasis and invites growth in three key areas:

  1. Character - seeking the character of Christ in our work and personal life.
  2. Theological/doctrinal training - growing understanding of Scripture and applying it to life.
  3. Ministry skills - learning impactful lessons on spiritual leadership; modeling and imparting lifestyles of worship, community, and mission to others.
One-Year Residencies

Residencies at New Life are full-time, one-year, 40-hours-per-week positions often filled by recent college graduates. They are a great opportunity for those who:

  • Want to be part of advancing the Kingdom of God in Ann Arbor and at U of M, perhaps before moving on to a new chapter of life.
  • Have a deep commitment to growing personally, professionally, and spiritually.
  • May have a desire to pursue vocational ministry in the future and want a chance to learn more what it’s like.

Questions?

Here are some answers to common questions

Currently, the program focuses on the 9-month window from August-April. Both full-time and part-time positions are available for that window. However, we have had full-time summer interns in the past, and that is still an option! This can involve gaining work experience through being a New Life Kids intern, assisting with communication department projects, as well as being a part of summer discipleship and evangelism church-wide. If this is what you're interested in, please indicate that in your application!

Yes! Historically our NLC residents have been recent graduates, but the ability to apply for a one-year position at New Life is open to anyone! If God is getting your attention through this opportunity and you want to explore it as an option for your life/career, please reach out to us for a conversation!

Ultimately - hopefully - it is faith-building! Ask others you know who have raised support to share what it was like for them. Support raising is the process of raising up a team of ministry partners who collectively send you to serve within a specific local community (by prayerfully investing in your ministry and giving financially to pay your salary). Reliant Mission is an industry leader in this process of “Ministry Team Development” and you would get expert training before beginning.

Paid NLC Internship / Residency opportunities currently require successful support raising.

Great question! The short answer is: it depends! We want the program to equip you for life, and that means your job description can be adjusted based on your current interests, career aspirations, and unique gifts. Most often that means helping serve within a Home Group and discipling others in the way of Jesus, participating in the overall life and rhythms of our community, and dedicated time for character growth and mentorship with NLC staff.

In addition, talking with any NLC staff member you know best might also be beneficial for you! They could both answer questions and ask questions, which could help with discerning if the program is a good fit for you.
